The Living Word of God

When we look at some of the things that are happening in our world, we can see that many people are unable to tell the difference between the truth and a lie. The saddest part about this is that when we lack the ability to know the difference between the truth and a lie, we also are not able to discern between right and wrong. It is a very bad place to be in, because without the discernment of right and wrong, and the truth and a lie, we are tragically very lost.

God never intended for His people to be in this kind of state. In 1Corinthians 14:33, He tells us that He is not an author of confusion; therefore, we can know that wherever there is confusion and disorder, He is not in the midst. God wants us to know the truth. Jesus Christ said in John 8:32 (KJV), “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” So, during those times in our lives where chaos and confusion is all around us, and the trouble we are experiencing is escalating higher and higher, there is a remedy. It is to go to God’s Word and to find out what He says, and then use His wisdom to straighten out our lives.

I shared the Word with a young brother the other day, and he said, “Someone told me that all those stories in the bible were not true. I didn’t think that stuff really happened.” You would be amazed to know the number of people that believe this way. They don’t think that God is the author is the bible, and that it is actually His living, breathing Word; but it is! Once you begin to read it, study it, and pray for the understanding of it, the Word of God will come alive for every believer in a way that is like nothing else life can offer.

We can’t get untangled from the trouble we experience in life, and leave it with a greater sense of clarity by believing a lie. In the case of the young man I witnessed to, he was headed down a really bad path. His life was in shabbles because the devil had blinded him by planting lies in his mind. 2 Timothy 3:16 The Message (MSG) says, “Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.” Every part of the bible came forth from the breath of God. He breathed inspiration on holy men and worked through them to write His Word.

God’s Word shows us the truth. It tells us when we are headed down the wrong path; it corrects our mistakes, and it tells us how to get on the right track and begin to live right. God knows everything there is to know about us. He knows the number of hairs on our heads, and He knows the hidden secrets that we don’t want anyone else to know. As we begin to read and study the bible, a message that is uniquely inspired by God to speak to us individually will come forth.

God’s Word does an operation on us. Hebrews 4:12-13 (MSG) says, “12-13 God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.” The Word of God has knowledge so sharp and powerful that it’s like a surgeon’s scalpel; it can separate bone from marrow. We desperately need this in our lives, so that our hearts do not become filled with negativity, fear, and doubt; but instead they are filled with positivity, confidence, and faith.

Like attracts like. Our hearts behave like magnets, attracting the very situations, conditions, and circumstances that mirror what is contained in them.  In Mathew 5:3-8 (MSG), Jesus Christ taught, “3 “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule. 4 “You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you. 5 “You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought. 6 “You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat. 7 “You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for. 8 “You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.”

Knowledgeable about His Word; full of wisdom, love, and confidence—this is the kind of person that God wants us to be. He wants us blessed in every aspect of our being, and His Word is the only way to get there. His Word is alive, and if we will let it into our hearts, it will change us for the better.
