We Need God’s Word

God is supernatural! Sometimes we forget this because we live in a natural world. We become so used to doing things with our physical might or intellectual prowess that we forget we’re spiritual beings having an earthly experience, and not the other way around. The truth is that our lives are filled with supernatural occurrences because everything is spiritual. Jesus Christ tells us in John 4:24(KJV), “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” Our Heavenly Father is a Spirit, and everything that IS made was made by Him. Hebrews 11:3 tells us that the entire universe was framed at God’s command. All that we see was made from things that cannot be seen. God created everything we survey by using the spiritual substance of faith.

Faith comes from God. John 1:1(KJV) tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” God elevates His Word above Himself. This should give us every confidence that His Word always comes to pass. Through faith, Heavenly Father spoke creation into existence. It is through this same faith in God that you and I can also call those things that are not as though they were. Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing the Good News of Jesus Christ! Faith comes to work when it hears about the Master, Jesus Christ! It does not come when a person hears and believes lies. Faith comes wherever the Word of the Lord is spoken, believed, and acted upon. Stated another way, God’s Word is true, and He always backs His Word.

There is never a time that Heavenly Father doesn’t honor His Word. He shows up and shows out when people trust and believe what He says. The Lord Jesus Christ is the embodiment of everything God desires to accomplish in humanity. Jesus Christ is the walking, talking, breathing Word of God. From this, you and I can understand that when we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make him Lord of our lives, a spiritual transaction occurs. We become the Word too!

We are the body of Christ. Colossians 1:27 tells us that Christ is in us, and we are the hope of his glory. He lives in us and we live in him.  Act 17:28 (KJV) tells us, “For in him we live, and move, and have our being.”  Heavenly Father tells us in Colossians 1:13(NKJV) that “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.”  Through Jesus Christ, God has transferred us into His Kingdom of light and love. We are destined to be replicas of Christ, and 2Timothy 1:7 cosigns this by declaring that God has given us a spirit of love, power, and sound mind. Because of what Christ accomplished, we can learn God’s Word, be empowered by the Holy Spirit; and make sound, wise, and good judgement. But if we don’t know God’s Word, if we deny or neglect the truth, 2Corinthians 2:11 tells us that the devil will outsmart us. If we don’t know God’s Word, we can’t stand upon it when the devil attempts to steal, kill, and destroy our lives.

This is happening to many of God’s men and women. They are being outsmarted and trapped by the enemy because they don’t take God at His Word. And again, we can’t take Him at His Word if we don’t know it. In the Bible, there are many examples of men and women of great courage and faith. Hebrews 12:1 calls them ‘a great cloud of witnesses’, because they trusted and believed God’s Word. Because of their faith in Him, they saw God perform the miraculous on their behalves. Their hearts were to seek the Will of God, so that His promises would come to pass in their lives.

The virgin, Mary, was a tremendous example of this. Many people are under the assumption that Mary was a full-grown woman when she became the mother of Jesus, but she was still in her teens. She was visited by a messenger angel of God, Gabriel, when she was engaged to Joseph, a descendant of King David; she had not had sexual intercourse with him or any other man. Luke 1:28(NLT) tells us, “Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” Mary was troubled by this visit, and didn’t understand what this greeting meant. Gabriel told her not to have fear and that she had found favor with God. He told her that she would have a son, and his name would be called Jesus. Luke 1:34-35(NLT) tells us, “Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.” The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.”

This would have been a lot for any adult to take in; even more so for a teenager, but Mary was no ordinary young lady. She loved God, was humble before Him, and had a tremendous amount of faith in God’s Word. She could have faced death had her community believed she was pregnant by someone other than her husband. Questions like, “How do I explain my pregnancy to my fiancée or my family? What happens if they don’t believe me? Where will I go if I am abandoned by everyone?” must have been on her mind, but she did not buckle under the weight of the unknown. Instead, her response recorded in Luke 1:38(NLT) was, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”

Mary had faith and confidence in the Word of God. She knew that when God spoke it, it would come to pass, and He would cause everything to come together for the good of all. Like Mary and countless others, we must have this same confidence and faith in God’s Word. He never fails, nor does His Word. We desperately need it in our lives to keep us in unity with the Father’s Will, so that we can know His promises and take them by faith. God will forever and always honor the truth of His Word, and when we trust it, it will come to pass in our lives!■
