Colossians 1:16(NLT)
for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.
As we commit ourselves to understand God, our Creator, we will cultivate the relationship with Him that He wants with us. The higher we see God, the higher we see ourselves, because Christ lives in us. The purpose of our sojourn on earth is to come into relationship with Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ, and to know God through our human experience. He does not open our heads and pour knowledge of Himself into us. Nor are we born into the earth pre-programmed with a thorough and complete knowledge of His Word. In Ephesians 4:23, He tells us to be renewed in the spirit of our minds. To renew is to make new again. It is a continual process of learning God’s Word, and it never stops. So, we must recognize the faulty data we’ve received from the world’s programming and get rid of it. Then, we are to digest God’s truth, so that His Word becomes not just knowledge in our heads, but it takes root in our hearts. This is how God’s Word becomes a part of us.
In Genesis 1, we can read about all the glorious wonders our Heavenly Father created. This chapter records His creation of the earth and the heavens. He also created vegetation and wild life. After He created all these wonderful things, He then created a human and breathed in him the breath of life. What does this tell us? Well, we would not be able to enumerate the vastness of knowledge contained even in this one chapter alone, but one thing is overwhelmingly apparent, our God is a God of order. The first thing God created was provision for humans. This demonstrates the perfection of His foreknowledge, and the care that He took to ensure we had all we needed to grow and thrive. He made sure we had food to eat, and that we would live in an environment that would allow us to flourish in every way.
Through His example of creation, our Heavenly Father has shown us that order is extremely important. He showed us that setting an appropriate order cultivates an environment of growth and productivity. This is the foundation of understanding that allows us to comprehend greater revelation. When we get the order right as God’s spiritual sons and daughters, we can build a life on His peace, power, and love. Jesus Christ tells us this in Matthew 6:33(NKJV). He said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
God is first! He cannot be second in anything, and some of us make the mistake of thinking this way. Consciously and unconsciously, we sometimes allow other things and the busyness of our schedules to take precedent. When we make this mistake, we need to allow Isaiah 46:9 (NLT) to bring us back to our senses. In this verse, God tells us, “Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me.” There is none like our Heavenly Father. He created the sun, moon, and stars. He created galaxies that are billions upon billions of miles away from the earth. The closest star is over four light years away. Surely, nothing is too difficult for Him. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 19:26 that with God, everything is possible, and this should deepen our reverence of our awesome King. Revelation 4:11(NLT) says, “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.” He is the Creator of all things, and we must never underestimate His power.
Understanding God as our Creator helps us to cultivate a relationship with Him with the reverence He deserves. Psalm 33:5-9(NLT) says, “5 He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the LORD fills the earth. 6 The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. 7 He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. 8 Let the whole world fear the LORD, and let everyone stand in awe of him. 9 For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command.” Nothing comes close to the glory, power, love, majesty, and holiness of our Creator, and it is beyond amazing that He wants a relationship with us. We may not understand some of the things we go through in life, but we must understand who God is as our Creator. It’s a privilege to be called His sons and daughters. He’s awesome and amazing, and He deserves all the reverence and honor we can give Him.■
