Our Obligation to Shine

Ephesians 2:10(NLT) states, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Heavenly Father considers our creation to be His greatest achievement. Our bodies were made from the dust of the ground, but our spirits—the highest part of our being—was created from God’s Spirit. He took from Himself and wove His essence into us. He breathed the spirit of humanity into a physical body. When this happened, Genesis 2:7 tells us that man became a living soul. We are connected to God in the most intimate and fundamental way. This is the reason He has such high hopes for us, because He’s given us what He is, and He hopes we will make the most of His provision.

God desires us to live a successful Christ-kind of life. Colossians 2:10 tells us that everything of God gets expressed in Christ. Through Christ, we can know the Will of the Father and have an up-close and personal view of His heart. He didn’t create us to be puppets or robots, so He will not make us follow His plan. We get to choose whether we want to have a beautiful relationship with Heavenly Father, where we’re continually giving and receiving. Or we can deny that He’s our Source and remain disconnected from His overwhelming love.

To chose to be disconnected from God’s love is to walk in darkness. This is what we did before we accepted the light of Christ into our lives. We were blinded, and this is how many people are living today; they are living in darkness. 2 Corinthians 4:4(NLT) says, “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”

Heavenly Father is the God of love, light, liberty, and life. Many people know about God, but they become so consumed with the cares of this world that they neglect the beauty of what He offers us. They forget God’s perfect love, and that they are created from it. Those of us that haven’t forgotten it, and have been born again, are given the privilege and responsibility to remind them what they’re missing.

People are hurting, and so often we allow the opportunities to minister or to speak life to them to pass us by. We’ve become too proud, and we refuse to humble ourselves to the reality that sharing the light of Christ is our mission; it’s in our spiritual DNA. 1John 3:1(NLT) states, “See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.” There are more people that do not know God through the Lord Jesus Christ than those of us that do know Him. 1Timothy 2:4 tells us that He wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. As God’s children, we should desire to help Him. Our lives may be busier than ever, but we can do more to help people that don’t know God to become better acquainted with Him through Jesus Christ. This should be our goal.

Some people will refuse His love and light, but this should have no bearing on our obligation to let our light shine. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:16(NKJV) “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” We are to bring light into dark places by sharing the good news that Jesus Christ died for our sins, he loves us, and he uses his power, authority, and strength to help us on the earth. We’re not ever alone, because he is always with us. Every person that has ever lived and is living today needs to know this.

We are spiritual people, with a spiritual Father, and spiritual brothers and sisters. We have been given the wonderful assignment to be ambassadors for God’s Kingdom on this earth. This earth is not our home; heaven is our home, but our blessed Father has given us everything that we need to live a meaningful and fulfilling existence on this planet. The way that we do it is by giving, sharing, loving, and living through Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth, and the life!■
