One of the reasons why people aren’t experiencing the fullness of what God has in store for them is because they don’t know who they are. When we don’t know who we are, odds are that we don’t know what we’ve been given or how to use it. When a person doesn’t know who they are, ultimately, they will allow other people, situations, and circumstances to mold their identities. This is a dangerous way to live life, because it will cripple a person and keep them from the destiny God has ordained. Our identities are not mysteries that cannot be discovered. 1 John 3:1(NLT) tells us, “See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!” We are children of God and brothers and sisters of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! We were created to walk in God’s purpose, expand His Kingdom, and reign on earth through His love. Every detail of our experiences on earth is designed to help us understand this more fully.
A person cannot rise higher than the knowledge in their arsenal. This is a very simple truth. God does not want us to be ignorant. He created us to be thoughtful, creative, loving, and intelligent beings; but every person doesn’t aspire to live up to the standard of who God has made them to be. Because of Adam’s and Eve’s disobedience, we are all born into sin without knowing the person of Jesus Christ, but we do not have to remain this way. Ephesians 2:2 tells us our history. It says that every person follows the course of this world and follows the prince of darkness, the devil, before they accept the light of Jesus Christ and makes him Lord of their lives. All of us are born into this sinful world, but we can make the choice to be transformed by God’s love through Jesus Christ. We can make the choice to be released from the bondage of darkness and become the person we are meant to be through Christ!
In John 12:46, Jesus Christ said that he came into the world as light, so that whoever believes in him won’t remain in darkness. Once we repent of our sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord, as it says in Romans 10:9-10, we become God’s sons and daughters. We need to invite the Lord Jesus Christ to take the lead in every detail of our lives, and some of us have a challenging time doing this. God makes it very easy for us to come to Him and accept His love into our hearts, but because we’re so used to applying pressure and self-effort to make our lives work, we think we have to do the same thing in our relationship with Heavenly Father. Most of us don’t feel the need to do this with our biological parents, we expect them to love us unconditionally. We should expect this even more so from our Heavenly Father.
The extraordinary reality of our relationship with God is that He does all the work; He only requires that we trust Him! He loves us beyond the capability of any human being, and Romans 8:38 assures us that nothing can separate us from His love. Our responsibility and privilege is to learn more about God’s love, because as His children, He expects us to take on His nature, so that His love can move through and by us.
Jesus Christ, our big brother, is the living Word of God. Some might wonder how a word can be alive. Well, God has created everything in such a way that words are very powerful. As it pertains to humans, God tells us in Proverbs 18:21 that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Imagine how much more potent God’s Words are? His Words are so powerful that Psalm 138:2 tells us that He has magnified them above His name. He has placed His Words above His very being. His Words are true. John 1:14 (NLT) tells us, “So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.” God’s Words are alive, and He saw fit to wrap a flesh and blood body around His Word through the person of Jesus Christ. In this way, we can do more than read God’s Word, we can become His Word in the same way that Christ did.
Jesus Christ said in John 6:63(NLT), “The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” Before we accept the Lord Jesus Christ as the head of our lives, our spirits are not alive, because they are not connected to the Source of life, which is God. Jesus Christ tells us in John 14:6 that he is the way, truth, and life; and we can’t get to the Father unless we go through him. He’s the Son! Our brother, and he purchased us from death and darkness, and translated us into his kingdom. Jesus Christ speaks words that are directly from Heavenly Father, and the more we hear, learn, and speak the words Jesus Christ speaks, the more like him we become.
John 1:1-4(NLT) states “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.” We gain life through the Word, and the Word is Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ is the way to understanding God’s Will for our being on this earth. The more we know about Jesus Christ, the more we know about ourselves. We come alive to the purpose for which we are created, we are blessed beyond measure, and our lives will make sense in a way that fulfills us and transforms us into the very image of Christ. ■
