Know God through His Word!

Jesus Christ said in John 3:16 (NLT), “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” Eternality was a quality unique to the Godhead bodily alone, and only God can give it. He has chosen to bestow it upon us through the Lord Jesus Christ. He has done this because of His great love for His children. He wanted a family and we’re it! Ephesians 5:8(KJV) tells us, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” We are to walk as children of God’s light, and in order to do this, quite naturally we need to know as much as possible about His nature. We need to know what God’s light is all about.

God makes us all feel as if we’re His favorites, but in reality, He loves us all the same. We’re all special in His eyes, and He wants us to continue growing in our relationship with Him. One lifetime isn’t nearly long enough to scratch the surface of all that He is. This is one of the reason’s He’s given us eternal life through the Lord Jesus Christ; because it will take this long to get to know the many facets of His wondrous being. Our time on earth allows us a very small window into His goodness, but He wants to reveal so much more. Lamentations 3:23 tells us His mercies are new every morning. We will never cease to discover the wonders of His love, and we should be continually excited for the possibility this holds.

Knowing God’s Word increases our faith
We need to know who God is so that we can believe rightly. We cannot be free by believing a lie. We must walk by faith, and the only way to do this is to know the truth, because faith will not respond to a lie. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith we can’t please God. We must believe that He exist and that He is a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. How do we diligently seek Him? We do this by reading, studying, and mediating upon His Word. Knowing God’s Word increases our faith, and this is what Romans 10:17 tells us. It says that faith comes by hearing the Word of God. It comes by hearing and digesting the truth, and our Heavenly Father is the truth! This is why we must go to His Word. We cannot accept another person’s opinion about who God is. We must go straight to the source, to His extraordinary and matchless Word. God’s Word will help us grow
In John 17:17(NLT), Jesus Christ prayed to God for the disciples. His prayer was, “Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.” This is an amazing verse, because Jesus tells us exactly how to become holy. To be holy means to be set-apart. This is who God is. He’s set apart! He’s like no other. Supremely holy is who He is. Again, He has made a way through Jesus Christ for you and I to share in His nature. He’s our Father, we’re His children, and He wants us to be like Him; for He made us in His image. We can be holy because He has made it possible. He’s called us to be a holy—set apart people. Learning His Word helps us to grow into the men and women He’s called us to be.

It is important for us to know this, because many people say they want to be close to God and declare they want more of Him, yet they will not study His Word. He said in Hosea 4:6 that His people are destroyed because they lack knowledge, and indeed they rejected knowledge. Because of their refusal to know God better, the devil took advantage of their ignorance. This happens to many of us today. We deny ourselves the blessings God wants to give us, not realizing that the blessing begins with knowing Him through His Word. The knowledge of His Word creates a runway for our faith to take off.

God’s Word teaches us Godly behavior
The Bible is a practical book, it is deigned and written in such a way that we can apply it to our everyday life. The Bible is a road map for life. 2Peter 1:3(NLT), “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.” God’s Word contains everything that you and I need to know about living His way. People will try to sell us a bill of goods for quick success, but Jesus Christ tells us in John 15:5 that apart from him, we can’t do anything. We can’t be the person we’re destined to become through Jesus Christ if we don’t learn to behave in a Godly way.

Negative emotions and ungodly behavior in our hearts will cause our lives to decline, and God doesn’t want this. He’s given us the best through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through Christ, we have access to a more than abundant life (John 10:10). When we engage in practices that are not in alignment with what God has called us to be, our lives cannot flourish, because we’re operating outside of His Will and Plan for our existences. You and I have a truth, and it is that we are God’s children of light. Again, our nature should look like God’s nature, because this is how we thrive and tap into His blessings. We’re supposed to reign in our lives. We were not created to feel powerless, but to be empowered by the Holy Spirit! As we further solidify our commitment to know God through His Word, we will gain confidence, grow in His love, and make a greater impact in the earth with the power and authority of Christ.■
